How do I change units from English to Metric?

On the "Current Conditions" screen click on the field you want to convert and it will change units. Continue to click to change to different units. When you quit the program the units will be saved for the next launch. I'm working on trying to change all units of temperature but this may never happen.

How do I interperate the Nexrad radar screen?

Try these links...

General information about city level Nexrad radar
Information about the National Radar Mosiac

What does the green bar mean? It looks like a progress bar, is it?

The progress bar is actually 30 seperate sections of a complete download. As a file is being downloaded it's section will turn yellow. If the download is successful then it will turn green and if it fails it will turn red. If you have only one city then the program will try and download up to four files at the same time so large sections of the bar could be yellow all at one time.

How can I make the data downloads completely manual?

First, in the applications preferences turn off the checkbox "Download data on application start" then go to the preferences for each city and check the box labeled "Exclude this city from Auto Update." The city will now be completly manual and you will have to use the "Update Me" button or the "Update All" menu item.

Any hidden keyboard shortcuts?

Apple-W will close most windows.

Apple-Comma and Apple-Period will rotate though the tabs in the frontmost city window.

How do you check for new versions?

During the first normal download of weather data, WeatherMan downloads the file...

http://homepage.mac.com/deandavis/ver.txt

This file contains a line with the most recent version of WeatherMan. If this version doesn't match your version WeatherMan will tell you and let you know where to go to download the new version. This check can be turned off using application preferences. But turning off version checking does not stop the downloading of the file.

How do you validate serial numbers?

During the first normal download of weather data, WeatherMan downloads the file...

http://homepage.mac.com/deandavis/ver.txt

This file can contains a list of serial numbers that are known to have been released to the public and are therefore invalid. For the first two weeks after a new number has been posted WeatherMan will display a warning that your serial number has been compromised. You should contact me to get a new serial number. After two weeks WeatherMan will revert to its unregitered state. At no time is any information about your computer transmitted to me. I keep no access logs. E-Mail me if you want to discuss this policy.

What files exactly do you download to create the information?

If I told you, I would have to kill you.

What is Civil and Astronomical Twilight?

I can't explain it any better than this web site:
